GALVESTON – Legal troubles continue to mount for a suspended and indicted Galveston County judge.

Galveston County Court-at-Law No. 3 Judge Christopher Dupuy was arrested for the second time in less than a month the afternoon of June 12 on a misdemeanor charge he allegedly practiced law as a sitting judge.

He is free on $1,500 bond.

The latest indictment adds to the eight criminal counts he was charged with last month arising from claims he abused his power.

The indictment alleges that while holding a position on the bench, he also provided legal assistance to a former lover who was seeking to regain custody of her daughter.

Tara Compton recently testified in an emergency custody hearing held at the request of the judge’s ex-wife that “corruption” in Galveston County government prompted her to turn to him.

She said part of her attraction to Dupuy was because he was in a position of power and said he was able to help her. Dupuy and Compton dated shortly afterwards.

Compton claimed they were engaged, but Dupuy asserted that he never proposed to her.

In addition to his criminal woes, Dupuy had to answer to allegations he plotted to kill Adrienne Viterna, his former spouse, and take their two children away to New Zealand. he is also facing a lawsuit clamoring for his removal from the judgeship.

The Texas Commission on Judicial Conduct suspended him without pay.
